Councillor Brian Cunial was elected to Frankston City Council as a Councillor for a 4 year term in South West Ward at the last local government election, held in November, 2008.

At the Statutory Meeting on 28 November 2011, Cr Cunial was elected Mayor for the coming year.

Having been born here, attended Frankston Primary School and Frankston High School, and always lived in Frankston, Councillor Cunial is determined to continue improving safety and making the municipality more attractive to investors and business operators.

"We need to keep strengthening the excellent partnership we have with local police, and maintain strong lines of communication with the State Government to make sure the fantastic allocations of new police over the past year continue as promised.

"This Council has made great progress in rejuvenating the city centre, with works commencing or about to start on the Peninsula Centre, Davey Street and the former Dimmeys site," he said.

"I will be focused on building upon this momentum, while at the same time making sure our important community-based programs continue to be supported."

He has 28 years experience in policing and has worked at the Mordialloc and Moorabbin police stations, Fingerprints, Police/Schools Involvement Program, Community Policing Squad, Sex Offence and Child Abuse Unit and the Crime Scene Unit.

Brian is a Leading Senior Constable of Police currently stationed at the Frankston Police Station. He has 25 years experience in policing and has worked at the Mordialloc and Moorabbin police stations, Fingerprints, Police/Schools Involvement Program, Community Policing Squad, Sex Offence and Child Abuse Unit and the Crime Scene Unit.

Councillor Cunial will be taking leave from his position as a Leading Senior Constable of Police at the Frankston Police Station.

Brian intends to work towards making the city a safer place for residents and visitors and is keen to contribute to improving Frankston's image. He is particularly interested in sustainable living practices such as the use of solar power, encouraging the use of recycled water and the harvesting of rainwater.

Brian is married to Diana and they have three teenage children, Nikita, Alyce and Joshua.

Brian's other interests include plant propagation, collecting palm trees and fishing.
