Dame Beryl Beaurepaire AC DBE

In recognition of her dedication and commitment to the provision of equal rights for women in the workforce, willingness to challenge existing systems, and her services to the community and charity work.
During the Second World War, aged 18, Dame Beryl joined the Women's Auxiliary Australian Air Force, where she worked as a Meteorological Officer in East Sale.
In 1947, Dame Beryl married Ian Beaurepaire of the Olympic Tyre dynasty and she became involved in political and charity work including lobbying successive prime ministers.
Dame Beryl sat on many boards tackling many issues including women's employment, provision of quality child care, domestic violence, sexual discrimination and education. In 1982, she was the first woman appointed to the Council of the Australian War Memorial, and was instrumental in bringing home the Unknown Soldier and securing pensions for ex-servicewomen.
Dame Beryl has lived in Mt Eliza for the past 20 years, and during her life she has influenced great change in our society.
