Kerbside Trading Guidelines

If your business is seeking to place any items on the footpath (e.g. display of goods racks, a-frame signage, outdoor dining (including tables, chairs, outdoor gas heaters, awnings, screens) and planter boxes - you must first obtain a permit.
Kerbside Trading is an important part of the retail environment and can significantly contribute to the ambiance of an area. Frankston City Council is committed to supporting local businesses to contribute to the dynamic and attractive atmosphere of the streets and laneways of our shopping precincts. However, Council also has the responsibility to provide a safe environment for all people who use footpaths throughout the municipality.
Kerbside Trading activities include:
- display of goods
- outdoor dining (including tables, chairs, umbrellas, screens, awnings, outdoor gas heaters)
- planter boxes
- temporary signage (including a-frame signs)
The Guidelines (adopted 4 August 2008 and reviewed 1 February 2010) have been developed to provide a sustainable balance between businesses seeking to use footpaths for Kerbside Trading activities with the need to provide safe and dignified access along footpaths.
