Safety Initiatives

Frankston Council has nominated Public Safety as the Number 1 issue to address in Frankston. Council is currently developing a new Community Safety Strategy to ensure a strategic and holistic approach is taken towards addressing safety concerns in Frankston. For queries about the Community Safety Strategy please contact Gillian Turnbull, Community Safety Officer on 1300 322 322.

What council is doing

Street Watch Team

Council's Street Watch Team of four full-time officers, supported by casual staff, respond to community safety issues by providing an enforcement role working closely with Frankston Police.

The team has recently issued a number of penalty infringement notices focusing on anti-social behaviour in our city streets, the consumption of alcohol in public areas, smoking in smoke free outdoor areas and other local laws related to animals.

Predominantly operating in Frankston's city centre and foreshore areas, the Street Watch Team will respond in other areas of the municipality where required.

The Street Watch Team also give assistance to visitors to Frankston, referring people in need to agencies who can assist, and build strong relationships with business operators.

The highly experienced team includes two members with over 65 years policing between them and others with expertise in the security industry.

Security Cameras

Frankston Council has been successful in receiving funding from the National Community Crime Prevention Program (NCCPP) for the installation of a fixed CCTV camera system in Frankston. The system is designed for future expansion to cover new areas where required. The initial set up includes 5 cameras at the Frankston Safe Taxi Rank, six cameras going in Young Street (covering intersections from Beach Street to Playne Street), one camera at the Nepean Hwy/Davey Street intersection and two cameras at the Frankston Foreshore.

The cameras are used to gather intelligence to influence human behaviour. The mobile cameras are use as part of a wider community safety strategy to address safety concerns in residential areas. The 'Community Safety Officers - Camera Operations' paramount concern is the privacy of the individual. Locations for the mobile cameras are determined by Council and Frankston Police. If you have concerns relating to hooning, graffiti, vandalism or litter dumping please contact the Council hotline on 1300 322 322. If you have queries relating to the operation of the mobile camera program contact the Senior Community Safety Officer.
