I Love Frankston Day a Big Success

The second I Love Frankston Day has been hailed a great success, with more than 2000 people - mostly families -  flocking to Frankston Park throughout the day. While admission was free, more than $3100 was donated at the gates to assist the children of Tracey Greenbury. Showtime Attractions and Darts Meats donated all proceeds from rides, amusements and sausage sizzles to the Frankston Dolphins, to help cover the loss of the Frankston Park grandstand.
Frankston's Idols in the Running for $400,000

Grant Recipients Benefit the Community

Frankston City Council's Community Grants recipients for 2008-2009 have been announced, with 77 groups receiving more than $120,000 so far to assist their work in the community.
Putting Frankston on the Map

Frankston Tourism has partnered with 22 other councils and tourism associations from across Victoria to develop and launch the 2008 Regional Tourism Community Awareness Campaign. Screening on Prime Television across regional Victoria, the advertisement, which went to air on 26 July, will be shown 136 times over eight weeks.
Mayoral Service for Refurbished Library

Stage Two of the Frankston Library refurbishment has been completed, and the library is open to the public again. To celebrate, Frankston City Mayor, Alistair Wardle took some time out to serve customers at the new  "one stop shop" service desk on Monday afternoon (29 July).

Frankston City Council's mobile youth service, the WHAT Truck, is spreading its wings for terms three and four, increasing the number of regular stops on its weekly schedule.
Are You An Emerging Athlete?

Nominations for Frankston City Council's 2008-2009 Emerging Athletes Program are about to close, and there are still a small number of places open. The program, a partnership between Frankston City Council and the Independent Newspaper, provides assistance to young athletes and sports teams who excel in their sporting field. Athletes must reside in Frankston City and be 18 years or under.
Council Steps Up Sports Ground Conversions

With the introduction of level 3a water restrictions last year Council applied and received exemptions to water one in five sports grounds. However, with Melbourne's storage levels currently at 30 per cent, four per cent lower than last year, there is a possibility the State Government will introduce Stage 4 restrictions in December and Council exemptions may be revoked.
What's Behind the Scenery

New Activities at Youth Resource Centre

Early Start for Sand Sculpting

Frankston welcomed Sand Sculpting Australia, the largest sand sculpting event in the Southern Hemisphere, to its  shores in January this year. The exhibition will be bigger and better the second time round, with the announcement this week the event will have its grand opening a month earlier on Boxing Day.

Celebrating Indigenous Culture

Winifred Bridges, a Wurundjeri senior elder, raised the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags at the Frankston Civic Centre  today (9 July) as part of NAIDOC Week celebrations. Flag raising is a symbolic gesture to recognise traditional ownership of the land and strengthen partnerships with the local community.

Nappies Are Not Recyclable!

Bin inspectors examine around 4000 kerbside recycling bins in Frankston City each month to check if they contain only recyclable items. Remarkably, one of the most common contaminants found are used nappies!
Frankston Bypass

Frankston City Council, at its meeting on Monday night (7 July 2008), gave qualified support for the Frankston Bypass preferred route as identified by the Southern and Eastern Integrated Transport Authority (SEITA) Council's support is pending the outcomes of the Environment Effects Statement (EES) process satisfactorily resolving the environmental, social and technical issues associated with the chosen route.

Council Inspections for Nature Strips

Frankston City Council is reminding residents that landscaping or other works on nature strips, including vehicle crossings and road openings, is prohibited without a Council permit under the Road Management Act. Parking any vehicles - registered or unregistered  - on nature strips is also prohibited in line with the Victorian road rules.
Eastlink Drawing New People to Frankston
