Recycling and Waste Transfer Centre

The Recycling and Waste Transfer Station on Centenary Park Drive, Frankston (off McClelland Drive), permanently closed on Monday, 1 March 2010 due to it being located in the planned route for the Peninsula Link Freeway.

Hard Waste Disposal options

Following the closure of the Veolia waste transfer centre owned by Skye Sands in Harold Road, Skye, Council is offering residents until 30 June 2012 a temporary "at call" hard waste collection service, with one service for each household subsidised by 33%.

The subsidised service will cost residents $50 for up to two cubic metres of hard waste. Items collected will be the same as the annual hard waste collection with the exception of mattresss/bases, which will not be collected. Subsequent collections will cost $75. Hard Waste in excess of two cubic metres will not be collected.

Skye Sands who are seeking a new contractor to operate the centre, have indicated the site will likely re - open by July 2012.

Alternatively, if your items are in good condition, post an add on Freecycle, Gumtree or Ziilch - free online sites to give away or sell quality items.

Freecycle:
The Freecycle Network™ is a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns and thus keeping good stuff out of landfills. Membership is free, and everything posted must be FREE, legal and appropriate for all ages. To view the items being given away or sought in Frankston, join up to the Frankston Freecycle group.

Gumtree: www.melbourne.gumtree.com.au

Ziilch
Much like Freecycle, www.ziilch.com.au is a comprehensive re-use website providing individuals, not for profits, charities, waste management and council groups with an online resource for finding, giving away and managing re-usable items.
