Frankston City Council is the first Council in Australia to have the Beach Tech 2000 beach cleaner. Now other Councils are considering following our lead.
The Beach Tech is an advanced piece of equipment that sifts and rakes the sand, collecting difficult objects such as cigarette butts and straws, that some other beach cleaners leave behind. The Beach Tech 2000 cleaner has improved the cleanliness of our beaches to the point where Frankston City has some of the most pristine beaches around Port Phillip Bay.
The diesel tractor that pulls the beach cleaner is very fuel-efficient, using approximately half the fuel of other comparable tractors, which was a high consideration for long-term environmental, community and cost benefits.
The beaches are cleaned regularly with an even higher frequency during the peak season from November through to April. Manual cleaning is also undertaken where mechanical cleaning cannot reach, or as required during peak periods to complement the mechanical cleaning.
