The Local Government Act 1989 empowers Council to impound without notice cars, trailers, trucks, and tractors together with their contents.
Local Laws Officers may place a Derelict or Abandoned Vehicle Notice on any unregistered vehicles and registered vehicles that are considered to be:
- Abandoned
- Derelict and wrecked
- Causing obstruction, such as illegally or dangerously left standing on a public road or reserve.
This notice will advise the owner of the vehicle to:
- Remove the vehicle immediately, or
- Remove the vehicle within 24 hours or 7 days
Local Laws Officers do not have the power to remove and impound derelict and abandoned vehicles from private land. There are however several local businesses that will remove vehicle wrecks from private property at no charge to the property owner.
