Overhanging Branches

Overhanging branches or plants protruding through a fence can be a danger to pedestrians and traffic. This is of particular concern for the elderly or visually impaired pedestrians.

Residents are required to keep shrubs and branches cut back to their property line, and to a minimum height of 2.4 metres from the ground (ie over the footpath) at all times.

Under the LocalGovernment Act an authorised officer can serve a Notice to Comply on a property owner or occupier if overhanging branches or protruding plantsare causing a problem, and considered dangerous to pedestrians or causing visual obstruction to vehicles.
