Public Lighting
Street lighting is responsible for around half of Council's corporate greenhouse gas emissions. To reduce these emissions Council is currently purchasing green power, seeking more efficient technologies and auditing existing lights.
A recent audit identified over 600 'day burning' lights within the municipality. Day burners are lights where the lamp is on for longer than the required time period, due to malfunctioning of the light switching controls. Identifying and fixing such a large number of day burners has saved electricity and reduced emissions equivalent to that produced by over 50 average Victorian households.
Council, as a customer of Alinta, the power distributor and street light provider for the Frankston municipality, has acted to get these problems fixed. If you see a day burning lamp or streetlight fault you can also contact Alinta directly on the number below.

A distributor is required to repair a street light within two business days of a fault report, or within a period of time otherwise agreed between the distributor and the person. If it does not, it must pay the first person who reported the fault a minimum of $10, providing that person is the occupier of an immediately neighbouring residence or is the proprietor of an immediately neighbouring business.
To report a fault call Alinta on 132 099 - 24 hours a day.
Faults include lights that are not working or are on for 24 hours per day, assets that may cause a hazard to public safety, and assets damaged through an accident, such as a power pole that has been struck by a car.
