Environmental Health Officers perform an important role by ensuring local food businesses comply with the provisions of the Food Act 1984 and The Food Standards Code. The following duties are performed to protect and promote the public health of the community and to raise food hygiene standards:
- Conduct routine food safety inspections of all registered food premises
- Conduct regular food sampling and participate in regional and statewide sampling surveys
- Investigate all food complaints including food poisoning allegations, unregistered and unclean premises and incidents of notifiable anaphylaxis.
All complaints relating to a food premises can be reported online to Council's Environmental Health team.
