Single-use plastic ban
From 1 February 2023, the Victorian Government is introducing a ban on the sale or supply of single-use plastics. The ban applies to all businesses and retailers across Victoria, including Frankston City.
The ban includes single-use plastic drinking straws, cutlery, plates, drink stirrers and sticks, cotton bud sticks and polystyrene food service items and drink containers. It includes all single-use plastics, including biodegradable, degradable, renewable, compostable and bio-based plastics. The ban does not apply to single-use coffee cups.
As part of the ban, the Victorian Government is asking businesses to consider whether disposable items are really needed. Businesses are also encouraged to think about offering a reusable system.
Where disposable items are needed, businesses must replace single-use plastics with responsibly sourced paper, bamboo or wood alternatives.
