Infringement payments
An infringement notice is a notice issued by Frankston City Council and sets out the particulars of an alleged contravention of the law. Common matters that are dealt with by way of infringement notices can include parking offences, animal offences, Local Law matters, some littering offences, etc. Infringement notices are usually issued as an alternative to referring a matter to court. You have a number of obligations and rights when dealing with an infringement notice.
A person who is given an infringement notice can choose to:
- Pay the amount specified in the notice as an alternative to court proceedings. If you choose to pay the amount the matter will be finalised and usually no further action will be taken. If you ignore the matter then court proceedings or other associated action may be commenced in relation to the alleged offence. Further costs may be incurred if you ignore the matter.
- Apply for an Internal Review - If you believe that the decision to issue you with an infringement notice should be reviewed you are entitled to apply for an Internal Review of that decision. If you want to submit a request for an Internal Review you will need to know the identifying number of your infringement notice. Further information is available below.
