Frankston City Council is committed to providing a safe environment for its residents and visitors. Littering can harm the environment, wildlife and human health. It may also create an unsightly and unpleasant appearance. Litter infringements are intended to deter people from dumping rubbish of any kind on any land not specified as a waste facility.
The unlawful deposit of litter can lead to the litter entering waterways and other environmentally significant areas and cause a number of issues for wildlife and the community.
Owners of motor vehicles are responsible for litter deposited from their vehicle unless they nominate the person that was in charge of the vehicle at the relevant time. The deposit of dangerous litter, such as lit cigarette butts can cause fires and hazards for other road users such as motor cyclists.
