Advocacy priorities
Council-led advocacy to state and federal governments is a vital tool for building awareness and support for matters that impact our city and to help secure the essential funding necessary to drive change and deliver on priorities that benefit our community.
Frankston City Council is looking to partner with the Victorian and Federal Government’s to equally fund the delivery of a range of important projects that support our growing community now and into the future.
The Frankston City community has seen great success in tri-level government investment towards local initiatives, such as the Frankston Indoor Stadium redevelopment, Sandfield Reserve Precinct Revitalisation and many others over recent years.
Each election period, Council selects a small number of priority projects that require Council led advocacy to Victorian and Federal Governments to secure required funding contributions. Council works with key stakeholders for each project, such as sporting clubs, in an effort to influence decision-making while engaging with the local community.
The below are local priority projects that Council, alongside key stakeholders and community, is currently advocating to Victorian and Federal Governments for funding contributions to ensure their delivery.
Council has also earmarked the following initiatives for future potential advocacy:
- A feasibility study is being developed to determine the opportunity to deliver library services in Langwarrin and whether there is a suitable project requiring funding contributions
- Planning is underway for a brand-new open recreation reserve at Lisa Beth Mews in Carrum Downs, once completed with project costings Council will advocate for equal funding contributions
- Following the adoption of the Baxter Park Master Plan in November 2023, officers are determining a suitable staged delivery of key elements which will lead to advocacy for equal funding contributions and relevant grant applications.
Ongoing advocacy projects
Council regularly advocates in many forms, such as grant submissions and strategic partnerships, for a large range of initiatives and services that have been raised by our local community through engagement, conversations, reporting of issues and through the development of key strategic documents.
The following initiatives in addition to priority projects are an example of the ongoing initiatives that Council advocates to Victorian and Federal Governments for support:
- Frankston rail electrification (options for delivery and alternative transport uses to retain Federal Government funding)
- Kananook Station accessibility and precinct improvements (including Quinn Link)
- Beach Street and McMahons Road underpass precinct improvements
- A future vision for Kananook Creek (restoring and enhancing natural qualities of creek, de-silting the entrance of Kananook Creek and revitalising the boardwalk for outdoor dining, events, recreation and more)
Beautification and maintenance of State Government owned assets (road maintenance, grass and vegetation maintenance, removal of dumped rubbish, graffiti removal and prevention along sound walls, improved lighting, public art)
