PROGRAM AREA

The role of the Digital Literacy Trainer is to provide onsite training support to participants at the Frankston Thrive Hub. Thrive Hubs are community-based, person-centred services that empower individuals to achieve their career aspirations and enhance their capacity for employment or further education. The hubs function as comprehensive resource centres, assisting adults and young people (aged 15 – 25) seeking connection to a wide range of services.

ROLE PURPOSE AND IMPACT

This is a unique opportunity to have a meaningful impact on the social and economic wellbeing of people in the Frankston community. The role of the Digital Literacy Trainer is to help bridge the digital divide that makes it difficult for individuals to access employment, study, and other opportunities. You will assist BSL participants in small group settings to help grow their confidence with using the internet, devices, and basic computer programs. These skills will support participants to achieve their goals of securing employment, accessing study, starting a business, connecting with community, or simply having greater independence for day-to-day living.

ROLE TASKS – What will you do?

  • Deliver in-person, small group training to participants at the Frankston Thrive Hub. Training topics may include but are not limited to: accessing and using Microsoft Office, emails, conferencing platforms (Zoom/Teams), online forms, navigating the internet, using MyGov, exploring job-search sites and applying for work, or learning to operate digital devices.
  • Plan, prepare, and create content for each training session during your own time at home.
  • Provide guidance and support to participants during training sessions to assist in their learning.
  • Report to Digital Literacy Volunteer Coordinator on progress of training and participant engagement.
  • Attend BSL Induction, Cross Cultural Responsiveness Training and Digital Literacy Orientation (delivered online, approx. 5 hours over 2-3 weeks). Attend Advantage Thinking Training (3-hour session delivered online). Additional training may be required on occasion.

VOLUNTEER HOURS

1-3 hours of volunteering a week (minimum, and during business hours) or as agreed.

This includes the delivery of training on site (approximately 1 hour), plus additional planning and preparation to be done at home between training sessions.

Minimum 6-month commitment required.
