Mayor, Cr Kris Bolam JP FIML GAICD
Mayor Kristopher (Kris) Bolam JP was appointed to lead Council for the 2024/25 term.
Ward
Ballam Ward – encompassing Frankston East, Karingal and Frankston Heights.
Prior to the ward changes, Mayor Bolam represented the Northwest Ward.
Time on Council
Mayor Bolam has served:
- Three consecutive terms, and one non-consecutive term, as a Frankston City councillor.
- Three terms as Mayor and a single term as Deputy Mayor.
- Single term as a Board Member of the Municipal Association of Victoria.
At the age of 24, he was, and remains, the youngest Mayor (2010) to be elected in Frankston and is the first and only Frankston Mayor that has served on the Victorian Local Government Mayoral Advisory Panel.
Priorities in 2024 and 2025
- Upskill and acclimate the newly elected city council;
- Continue to drive Frankston’s gentrification effort through landscaping, beautification, branding and the attraction of high-quality investment;
- The award of the construction contract for the $60 million Frankston Basketball and Gymnastics Stadium – the biggest infrastructure project undertaken by Frankston City Council to date;
- Ease the current cost-of-living pressures on the Frankston community; and
- Continued good governance reforms that enhance accountability and transparency at Frankston City Council.
About Mayor Bolam
A proud Karingal resident, Mayor Bolam has a cheeky labradoodle named Murphy.
He has had an eclectic career that has spanned from recruitment to law enforcement to policy writing, and is currently a pre-service teacher with a specialty in the humanities.
Mayor Bolam’s qualifications include: a Bachelor of International Studies (with a major in Politics and Policy Studies), a Bachelor of International Studies (with a double-major in International Relations and Middle East Studies), a Graduate Diploma of Management and a Master of Business Administration. He is currently completing the final stages of the Master of Teaching at the Australian Catholic University.
Outside of public office, Mayor Bolam has served on over a dozen boards and trusts. He is presently a member of the Frankston Suburban Revitalisation Board, the Frankston Cemetery Trust and the Frankston Charitable Fund Committee of Management.
Mayor Bolam also has several accreditations and honours to his name, including mediation training from the Victorian Department of Justice. He is a graduate of the Cranlana Leadership Program, a graduate of the Australian Institute of the Company Directors Program and a fellow of the Australian Institute of Managers and Leaders.
Mayor Bolam was appointed as Victoria’s youngest ever Justice of the Peace in 2008. As an Honorary Justice, the Mayor is available to assist residents with certification queries. He can cite documents for identification purposes and certify Statutory Declarations and Affidavits upon request.
