Emergency relief

The opportunity
Recognising the acute vulnerability experienced across the Frankston City community and broader south east Melbourne and Mornington Peninsula regions, collaboration by all tiers of government and relevant industry sectors is essential to supporting individuals experiencing varying cases of vulnerability.
Current emergency relief and vulnerable support service providers in Frankston City are experiencing high and increasing demand from our most disadvantaged community members, and require increased ongoing annual funding to meet needs, indexed each year with CPI. As an example, Frankston City’s primary and only Federally funded emergency relief provider Community Support Frankston has seen a 120% increase in requests for support since 2018, whereas their funding has remained largely the same. These providers deliver a range of supports, from emergency food assistance, utility bill help, petrol vouchers, essential medications, laundry, car registration and housing related supports.
What will be delivered
Through our partnerships with Federal and State Governments, we can:
- Ensure emergency relief providers within Frankston City have the base level funding needed to continue delivering essential support services to our most vulnerable community members due to homelessness, family violence, financial strain, mental health issues and substance harm.
What we need
Council continues to provide funding towards community initiatives that support vulnerable community members. This includes ongoing funding to Community Support Frankston for staff resourcing and for the delivery of essential services, programs and infrastructure improvements.
We are seeking Federal funding of an additional $500,000 per annum (increased annually with CPI) for emergency relief providers operating in the Frankston municipality, such as Community Support Frankston, to address the needs of vulnerable residents.
