How to nominate and select Frankston City’s 2023 Citizens of the Year

2022 Citizen of the Year

Frankston City, loved by those who live here, has many residents making outstanding contributions to their community.

We all know of a schoolteacher who has gone above and beyond, an aged care worker, a local health care nurse, a sporting club coach or a volunteer who just keeps giving to our municipality's most vulnerable - these are the types of people who are merited recognition.

To sit on the Selection Panel

Council is currently looking for members of the Selection Panel to choose the next Citizen of the Year. To sit on the Selection Panel, you need to make an expression of interest. Members of the Panel need to meet certain criteria.

They need to:

  • be a resident and/or business operator in Frankston City
  • have demonstrated personal and professional integrity
  • have demonstrated expertise, experience and/or commitment to recognition of achievement in the community
  • have a track record of constructive and collaborative decision making in a board or committee type structure
  • have proven their ability to formulate and explain recommendations
  • be available to attend and actively participate in the annual selection process meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, 7 December 2022

If you feel you have what it takes to judge the top contenders for the 2023 Citizen of the Year Awards, you can sign up here.

Nominations are open

In 2023, we are revamping the Citizen of the Year awards following consultation with the local community. We hope that the new categories will deliver a larger pool of nominations.

We have combined the Citizen (COTY) and Senior Citizen of the Year (SCOTY) Awards. There has also been a  recategorisation from 'Community Event category' to 'Community Group' to provide recognition to outstanding organisations within Frankston City.

What hasn’t changed is Council’s desire to recognise individuals and groups who have had a significant influence on the Community, making Frankston City a better place to live.

The categories are as follows:

  • Citizen of the Year: all people aged 26 years and over
  • Young Citizen of the Year: all people aged 25 years and younger
  • Community Group: a group of people in the community

Citizen of the Year nominations are open from 3 October through to 25 November; nominate now.

The Selection panel will meet on 7 December to decide upon the winners.
