Australian Government commits $5 million for Bruce Park Redevelopment
Published on 19 March 2025
Frankston City Council’s advocacy priorities campaign, Frankston City First, is off to a flying start, with the Australian Government announcing a $5 million commitment towards the redevelopment of Bruce Park Pavilion if re-elected.
This funding aligns with Council’s contribution of $3.33 million, bringing the total funding for the project to $8.33 million – surpassing Council's initial advocacy ask of an equal $3.33 million.
The Bruce Park Pavilion redevelopment is one of Council’s key four advocacy priorities for the 2025 federal election. This vital investment will provide a state-of-the-art, purpose-built facility for over 1,000 participants across AFL, cricket, and tennis, providing more opportunities for participation – particularly for young girls and women.
Council has been working on the redevelopment project for several years, with initial concepts first developed in 2018. This funding commitment marks the beginning of what is hoped to be further positive investment announcements during the election campaign, demonstrating that both levels of government are prioritising Frankston City.
Frankston City Mayor Kris Bolam welcomed the news, which was announced on site at Bruce Park by Prime Minister the Hon Anthony Albanese MP and Member for Dunkley Jodie Belyea MP this week.
“This is a fantastic step forward for our community. The redevelopment of Bruce Park Pavilion will provide much-needed facilities for our local sporting clubs and ensure that our Frankston City can continue to grow and thrive,” he said.
“We look forward to making this project a reality.”
Frankston City Council will continue to advocate for additional support from the Federal Opposition and the Victorian Government to bring this project to fruition.
The other three Frankston First priorities are:
- Nepean Boulevard Precinct Revitalisation: Council is seeking $10 million (or greater) to deliver signature projects as part of the Nepean Boulevard Precinct Revitalisation, designed to enhance local infrastructure and liveability in Frankston’s growing city centre.
- Enhancing Connected Neighbourhoods: Council is calling for a $11.7 towards a package of initiatives strengthening connections within Frankton and its neighbouring municipalities through active transport initiatives, including walking and cycling pathways.
- Support for Vulnerable Community Members: Council is seeking ongoing funding of $500,000 per annum for emergency relief providers like Community Support Frankston, and $1.05 million over three years to support mental health and social support outreach in Frankston’s CBD as part of the Community Connectors initiative.
Council’s Frankston City First campaign positions these projects front and centre during the candidate campaign period in the weeks ahead, and during the all-important state and federal funding priority process.
Community members can support the campaign by sharing project information with friends, families and online, talking to candidates about their importance, and participating in community led initiatives such as the Frankston Business Collective’s petition on the Nepean Boulevard Revitalisation.
