Community members may be hearing the news that tenancy of the Frankston Foreshore restaurant facility is nearing its expiry, with current long-term tenant Sofia’s Restaurant set to finish operating in mid-February.

Acknowledging that commentary online has commenced following a social media post from Sofia’s Restaurant confirming the end of their lease, I feel it is appropriate to provide clarity to the community.

I want to thank the team that have worked at Sofia’s Restaurant over the past 21 years. They will be missed, and I wish them the best of luck in the future.

However, it is time for something new.

With the Frankston Foreshore being an incredibly popular destination all-year round for locals and visitors alike, it is of utmost importance that we find a suitable long-term tenant to take this waterfront facility into a new chapter.

Council undertook an Expression of Interest process in September last year to consider a new tenancy for the waterfront space, and there was a significant amount of interest showcasing just how highly sought after this location is.

I am delighted to advise that details are being finalised with a shortlisted new tenant that will operate an exciting new dining experience at Frankston Foreshore restaurant facility. Councillors will consider the new tenancy arrangement at the February 2025 Council Meeting, with more information to be shared following this decision.

Following finalisation of a new tenancy agreement, the new tenant will undertake a full fit-out of the space ahead of opening to the community.

Given commercial-in-confidence negotiations are still ongoing, further details cannot yet be shared. However, rest assured, all will be revealed as soon as we can.

It is encouraging to see the high calibre of applications made to activate this highly sought after space and I look forward, as I’m sure many within the community will, to what’s to be on offer in the near future.

Again, thank you Sofia’s Restaurant for choosing Frankston’s pristine waterfront over the past 21 years.

As for what is coming – watch this space!
