Council advocacy wins through again for the Seaford Community

Frankston City Council was delighted by the announcement today that the Labor Government would contribute $2.6m towards the redevelop RF Miles Reserve in Seaford if re-elected.
Council has been furiously advocating for State and Federal support to redevelop the reserve in the lead up to the State Election, and sees today’s announcement is a step in the right direction.
“This is a positive announcement, and Council thanks Ms Kilkenny for her commitment, however we still need the Federal Government’s matched funding if the project is to be realised.
“I call on Donna Bauer, Chris Crewther and Peta Murphy to show their support by announcing a matched $2.6 million commitment to the project,” said the Mayor.
RF Miles Reserve is currently being used by the Level Crossing Removal Authority (LXRA) for its site office and construction machinery while undertaking removal of the Seaford Road level crossing.
Although the reserve and playing field will be reinstated by the LXRA following completion of level crossing removal works, Council is seeking further upgrades including enlarging the football playing field to meet senior AFL standards, building a new pavilion that better caters to female participation in sport and the construction of new netball courts and cricket nets.
Council has committed $3.347 million towards these upgrades and to date, required an equal contribution of $2.6 million from state and Federal Governments to deliver this project as a priority following level crossing removal works.
“We have had numerous discussions with politicians and candidates and will continue advocating for this vital upgrade to be completed ahead of the state election in November.
“I’d like to thank Seaford Cricket Club and Seaford Football Netball Club for their efforts in lobbying for this project, and urge the community and club members to continue to raise their voice and let candidates know that this project will secure their vote,” the Mayor said.
