Labor supports Jubilee Park expansion

Sport is in the spotlight this week, with Labor candidate for Dunkley Peta Murphy today announcing a $10 million commitment towards Council’s proposed expansion of Jubilee Park indoor stadium.

Frankston City Mayor Michael O’Reilly welcomed the announcement, which follows months of extensive lobbying to both sides of politics at a state and federal level.

“Jubilee Park is already home to netball, cricket and football. This expansion would bring these sports into a higher standard, increase opportunity for participation and will introduce basketball in a central location for our community and region to make great use of for decades to come,” said the Mayor.

“Council said we’d find alternative opportunities to grow basketball within Frankston City and that’s exactly what this project delivers. I’d like to thank Ms Murphy for her commitment to sports in the local community.”

“I’d also like to thank the sport clubs who have advocated alongside Council in order to achieve this commitment.”

Council is still calling on Liberal candidate for Frankston Michael Lamb to commit $10 million and Federal Member for Dunkley Chris Crewther to commit $4.8 million in order for this vital project to proceed, with Labor candidate for Frankston Paul Edbrooke already promising $10 million if re-elected.

The proposed expansion will complement works already completed at Jubilee Park, such as:

  • Indoor Cricket nets and establishment of a regional cricket hub
  • 6 indoor multipurpose courts – new courts catering for players, spectators and officials
  • Lighting for football night games and expanded training facilities to cater for women’s football and cricket

Today’s announcement follows a $2.6 million commitment towards redeveloping RF Miles Reserve over the weekend.
