Council declares February festivals as bushfire appeal fundraisers

Frankston City Council has announced The Waterfront Festival and Ventana Fiesta as its major fundraisers for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

The decision to endorse the events as Council’s major fundraising opportunities was carried unanimously at last night’s Ordinary Council Meeting (Tuesday 28 January).

Frankston City Mayor, Sandra Mayer, said Council and the community were united in their commitment to supporting those impacted by the recent disaster.

“Our city has shown incredible generosity in its heartfelt response to the recent bushfires,” Cr Mayer said.

“As a mark of solidarity with those affected, Council staff members have volunteered their time to collect cash donations at the events.”

Cr Mayer said all funds donated at The Waterfront Festival (15 and 16 February) and Ventana Fiesta day (29 February) would be deposited to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal on behalf of the community.

The Waterfront Festival is a family-friendly event featuring an impressive live music line-up, roving entertainers, amusement rides, water play and the best of local market goods and cuisine.

“We’ve put on some great acts and are hoping people will come down and enjoy the music, food and stunning waterfront that Frankston is famous for,” Cr Mayer said.

Ventana Fiesta will transform the Frankston Arts Precinct into a celebration of Latin art, food, music and dance, with parades scheduled throughout the day.

“This is the main event of our two-month Latin Arts Festival and a real feast for the senses so grab your family and friends and come down for a meal, a dance and take in the spectacular.”
