Council kicks on with Seaford sports redevelopment

Works to construct a brand new pavilion as the new home for football, netball and cricket at RF Miles Reserve in Seaford have kicked-off this week.

This project follows the completion of the Seaford Road level crossing removal, with Mayor Sandra Mayer saying “this is a fantastic community investment from all three levels of government.”

“Council is excited to get this project underway to keep Seaford Football Netball Club and Seaford Cricket Club players kicking goals and hitting sixes,” said the Mayor.

“Sport and recreation plays such an important role to the health, wellbeing and spirit of the Frankston City community. This project will ensure local residents have the facilities they need and deserve to participate and grow in sports.”

The $9.147 million redevelopment of RF Miles Reserve, funded by Council, Victorian and Federal Governments, will include:

  • A new two-storey pavilion with female-friendly facilities
  • Larger oval to meet AFL standards, a new netball court and new cricket nets
  • Car parking, shared user paths and landscaping
  • New oval lighting, scoreboard and coaches box

Both Seaford Football Netball Club (SFNC) and Seaford Cricket Club are delighted to see the project breaking ground.

“The club is very excited for the brand new pavilion and oval to be built. To have the availability for netball to train and play from the venue is something we couldn’t imagine happening without the assistance from the Council, State and Federal Governments." said SFNC President Dale O’Neil.

SFNC women’s team President Sheridan Howe added “…we have seen a growing number of women wanting to play at our destination club. I am looking forward to having female-friendly facilities at our home ground and can't wait for the redevelopment to be finished.”

Local state and federal representatives shared their excitement at new this important sporting project is now underway.

State Member for Carrum Sonya Kilkenny said “the Victorian Government’s contribution of $2.6 million to help build a brand new pavilion at RF Miles Reserve…comes on top of the $10 million provided…to revitalise the whole local area with the brand new playground, the shared user path and the more than 100,000 trees and plants as part of the Seaford Road level crossing removal.”

Liberal Patron for Dunkley Senator David Van said “I am delighted that works are now commencing on the redevelopment of the RF Miles Reserve enabled by a $2.6 million Federal Government contribution…the Seaford and Frankston community will soon be able to enjoy even more top-quality sporting facilities for years to come.”

Federal Member for Dunkley Peta Murphy echoed these sentiments, saying “I’m thrilled to be part of delivering this project which will see participation increase in local sport and a facility that our community can be very proud of.”
