Council staff band together for Bushfire Appeal

Frankston City Council staff came together yesterday (Wednesday 15 January) for a barbecue to raise funds for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

As well as picking up a tasty bite to eat from the barbecue, staff donated for a chance to pat Odie the Council wellness dog and 10-week-old puppies, Jumper and Jade.

The puppies quickly stole the show, with members from teams across Council lining up for a chance to meet them.

The barbecue was organised by the Frankston City Council social club and raised $1300 to support communities, animals and volunteer services affected by the ongoing bushfires.

All proceeds will be donated to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

Frankston City Mayor, Sandra Mayer, said it was a great opportunity for staff to come together and support a cause which had touched so many.

“Our wonderful team members wanted to do their bit to help communities doing it tough as a result of the recent bushfires.

“It was great to see so many turn out and show their support and I’d like to thank our social club for their initiative in organising the barbecue.”

Last Wednesday (8 January), more than 100 people turned out to a crochet and knit-a-thon at Frankston Library, to create nests for animals impacted by the fires.

Following the great success of the event, a second one has been organised for Wednesday 22 January.

To make directing resources easier, the State Government has asked people to donate money rather than aid items, if they wish to contribute to the relief effort.
