Frankie returns home to Frankston City

Following his world adventures, everyone’s favourite chrome gnome, Frankie has returned home to Frankston City.
In early February, Frankie announced via Frankston City Council’s Facebook page that he had signed a four year lease on a brand new plinth located on the corner of Hastings Road and Moorooduc Highway, adjacent to Monash University.
“When I arrived back in Frankston City following my world travels, to be honest I felt a little lost,” Frankie said.
“I knew I wanted to once again call Frankston home, but I wasn’t sure where or how to make it happen.
“I was speaking to a friend about my conundrum and he suggested that perhaps I rent a place for a few years and suss out where I want to be long term – so that’s what I’ve done,” said Frankie.
During his travels Frankie visited many well-known cities and landmarks, including the Eiffel Tower, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Kakadu National Park, London, The Big Pineapple, Statue of Liberty, the Great Wall of China and Victoria’s Parliament House at the request of the Premier, Dan Andrew.
Frankston City Mayor, Cr Sandra Mayer said she is happy to see Frankie home.
“Frankie has become a local legend, and a favourite with residents, particularly children. He just makes you smile,” the Mayor said.
Frankie’s return was made possible by the work of Frankston City Council, who have commissioned Frankie through McClelland Sculpture Park and Gallery to appear at his new location.
When asked where he intends to head after his four year lease is up, he replied “I have no idea, but one thing I do know is that this world is full of beautiful places and people, however there’s no place quite like Frankston City.”
Frankie’s world travels reached over 500,000 people worldwide, generating hundreds of shares and thousands of comments.
