Frankston Seniors Festival 2020 moves online

Published on 14 October 2020

The Frankston Seniors Festival 2020 has been ‘reimagined’ with a huge range of diverse and engaging free online activities.

Frankston City Council CEO, Phil Cantillon, said the Council had partnered with Frankston University of the Third Age (U3A), which will host some of the online activities, for this year’s festival.

“The usual jam-packed calendar of events has been ‘reimagined’ for all our seniors to enjoy at home while staying safe and not missing a thing,” he said.

“From exercise to sessions on current affairs, financial management, detective novelist Agatha Christie and much more, there’s something for everyone.

“Those who feel like blowing off a bit of steam can check out ‘Rant’ – a light hearted opportunity run by experienced U3A tutor Bill Puls enabling participants to ‘rant and rave’ about the things that matter.”

The Frankston Seniors Festival is part of the Victorian Seniors Festival Reimagined 2020.

Frankston U3A President Andrea McCall urged seniors to get involved and participate.

“There’s plenty to keep seniors connected, stimulated, engaged and motivated,” she said.

“The University of the Third Age has been part of the Frankston Community for 35 years. We are delighted to collaborate with Frankston City Council for Seniors Week this year – a year like no other.

“For seniors who don’t know much about what we do, I urge them to participate in Zoom sessions scheduled for Frankston Seniors Festival 2020.”

Frankston U3A is a not for profit organisation, drawing on the wealth of knowledge and experience of its almost 700 members to offer study groups and recreational activities for seniors.

The Frankston Seniors Festival 2020 also includes the ‘Coming Together Puzzle’ community art project.

Participants will receive two ‘puzzle’ pieces to be decorated however they like. Once returned, the pieces are returned and a local artist will place the pieces together to make a giant puzzle before the final creation is displayed.

As part of the ‘Coming Together Puzzle’, free online workshops will be held with art therapist Lorin.

Hands on and interactive, the workshops will enable participants to explore tips and techniques on decorating puzzle pieces. To register interest, email positiveageing@frankston.vic.gov.au

PARC Frankston will celebrate seniors in October by providing free online exercise classes to improve bone strength, balance and keep participants connected to their community during lockdown.

Frankston City Libraries will also host also a range of online workshops including family history and author talks.
