#FrankstonReinvented supports locals and tourism businesses
Published on 13 May 2020
Some of the city’s most well-loved business personalities and attractions star in a new video showcasing the positive way Frankston has reinvented itself to transcend the challenges of social distancing.
The video and accompanying blog were created by Council’s Tourism and Visitor Services team in conjunction with the tourism community, under the banner #FrankstonReinvented.
The campaign was launched on Monday 4 May and a week later (11 May), the video had received close to 50,000 views and the blog had attracted 1120 visits.
They both feature stories of resilience from restaurant, café, accommodation, retail, attraction and gym operators who quickly realigned their services when social distancing rules changed their worlds overnight.
Owner of Frankston’s Two Boys, One Beagle café, Mikaela Keysers, said the campaign provided a great opportunity for businesses and consumers to reflect on how they could contribute in the current environment.
“We were proud to advertise our little café as one of the many great benefits of living in Frankston City and our customers are thrilled to see Council getting behind businesses in these challenging times.”
Quest Frankston General Manager, Nellie Tinga, said #FrankstonReinvented was a great way to show how local businesses were being innovative during this challenging time.
“It provided a platform for us to showcase our apartments’ multi-purpose use – particularly as a home office away from home, which locals may not have had a need for before.”
Frankston City Council Mayor, Sandra Mayer, thanked those involved for supporting residents by offering them creative ways to enjoy the city’s experiences and services.
“At a time when people can’t visit, the tourism community has been an inspiration by finding new ways to engage residents and share the City’s best assets.
“We can do our part by using online and take away options to support our local food, retail and service businesses and by talking about how great this City is any chance we get!”
The Mayor also congratulated Council’s Tourism and Visitor Services team for adapting their service delivery.
“The team has applied the ‘reinvention mantra’ to their own work and very successfully managed to increase engagement across our online visitor platforms at a time when people can’t visit our beautiful City.”
Cr Mayer said this was important because it meant the city would be front of mind when restrictions were lifted and that businesses which relied on tourism were supported in the meantime.
“Social distancing is important so we can keep each other safe and healthy but if you’re after some great ideas for staying connected and supporting local businesses at this time, be sure to check out the #FrankstonReinvented campaign.”
