Hard waste collection a success thanks to community efforts

This year’s hard waste collection is complete and Council would like to thank residents for their efforts in putting correct items and amounts of rubbish out on time.
The collection commenced on 27 April and was completed on time, concluding on 19 June.
Council’s hard waste contractor visited 58,815 homes across the City and collected 5127 tonnes of rubbish during the eight week period.
Overall, the amount collected remained similar to last year, however contractors recorded an 80 per cent increase in green waste and 52 per cent increase in e-waste.
This year’s collection also included 108 fridges, 6722 mattresses and 875 tonnes of scrap metal, which was distributed to local and nearby recycling facilities.
Frankston City Mayor, Sandra Mayer, said Council was impressed with how well residents kept to the rules, especially at a time when people were spending extra hours at home.
“We are proud of local households for meeting the challenge of placing the correct items and amounts of rubbish out for collection at the right time.
“This helped us achieve our goal of safely completing the hard waste collection within eight weeks.”
The Mayor also thanked Council’s waste and recycling team for their flexibility and hard work in ensuring the collection was conducted safely, successfully and on time during the COVID-19 pandemic.
