Support our city’s vulnerable with ‘Hi neighbour’ connection cards

Council is calling on the community to support the city’s elderly and vulnerable by getting involved in its new ‘Hi neighbour’ connection cards campaign.

Frankston City Council Mayor, Sandra Mayer, said the cards were a way of ensuring residents remained connected to the community even if they needed to self-isolate.

“While stage 3 restrictions mean we are all asked not to leave the home unless absolutely necessary, some of the city’s elderly, disabled and immunocompromised citizens are forced isolate 24/7 to protect themselves, and they need our support,” Cr Mayer said.

“You can use the cards to offer to collect and deliver your neighbour’s groceries, walk their dog, run urgent errands, share supplies or simply phone for a chat.

“If you would like to get involved, register online and 20 cards will be delivered to your mailbox.”

The Mayor also encouraged residents to be considerate of others at this challenging and emotional time and to share basic essentials if they had the means.

“Uncertainty, particularly about whether we’re going to be able to protect and provide for our families, can inspire people to act out of character,” Cr Mayer said.

“Please remember to be kind to each other and forgiving of those who are not at their best. Everyone is doing what they can to get by and some may need extra supplies or support.”

Cr Mayer said the community could rest assured that Council was taking all of the precautions necessary to protect the health of residents.

This will include officers from the Community Care team phoning particularly vulnerable clients to ensure their wellbeing.

“Keeping you well is our priority and we will continue to update you daily as new information comes to hand.”
