‘Pawsome’ news for Carrum Downs pooches

An exciting new dog park is set to provide Carrum Downs families with even more outdoor recreation opportunities to enjoy thanks to Victorian Government funding.

Boasting over 11 acres of open space featuring an enclosed playground for children, a half basketball court with rebound wall and the recently upgraded skatepark, Sandfield Reserve in Carrum Downs will provide the ideal setting for dogs to socialise and explore in a safe space.

Frankston City Mayor Sandra Mayer said Council has been successful in receiving an $87,000 grant to deliver the dog park through the Victorian Government’s Suburban Parks Program.

“This is great news for our community of dog lovers, who will soon have access to a secure space for their beloved fur family members to stretch their legs and get some fresh air,” said the Mayor.

“Sandfield Reserve makes Frankston City home to five enclosed dog parks in addition to 33 free roam areas in our parks and reserves.”

“It is important that Frankston City’s 16,500 registered dogs are happy, healthy and active and have opportunities to socialise and train in safe, off-leash locations such as enclosed dog parks like this.”

Planning is currently underway for the new enclosed dog park, which will provide physical exercise and mental stimulation and also allow dog owners to learn to control their dog in a confined area.

Mayor Sandra Mayer thanked the Victorian Government, saying “we’re delighted to again be partnering with the Victorian Government and local Member for Carrum Sonya Kilkenny on a project that will mean so much to the Carrum Downs community.”

Preliminary project scoping and initial concept design is currently being undertaken, with community consultation seeking feedback on features of the new dog park to be underway in the coming months.

The new dog park is set to be open for residents to enjoy in early-2021.
