A day out in Ballam Park just became even sweeter

Ballam Park is a popular play-date destination for so many families in Frankston City, including Deputy Mayor, Nathan Conroy and his nephew, Brooklyn.
As two-year-old Brooklyn discovered last week, a trip to the park is now even sweeter, with Bohorama mobile coffee shop serving up tasty babycinos from its new home at the main park entrance on Cranbourne Road.
Bohorama moved in five weeks ago and owner, Tristan Stass, said locals were loving the coffee and snacks made from locally sourced produce.
“I’ve lived in Frankston a long time and I was keen to give back to the local area,” Tristan said.
“We have a mobile bar for weddings and events but COVID made that difficult so we thought we would give takeaway coffee a go and we’re so happy with this location, looking over Ballam Park.
“We specialise in great coffee and crepes… our strawberry and cream crepes are going off!”
Cr Conroy said it was great to see locals coming out to support the new business.
“We love that another exciting new business has chosen Frankston City. Operating from a converted horse float is a very cool idea as well. It is transportable and open early to serve those rushing past on their way to work, as well as families out for a play.”
Parking at Ballam Park will soon be easier too, with the newly sealed overflow carpark, near the dog agility training area, due to open on Monday 8 March.
As well as the asphalt works to create 41 formal car parks, including a disabled bay, two new linking footpaths have been created, with a total length of 120 metres.
“When the community said they wanted more parking, we listened, and it is looking a treat, with kerbs made from recycled bluestone pavers and graffiti removed from the substation next door.
“The carpark will be illuminated by solar lights which will be installed over the next two months and complement 10 solar light poles erected late last year, on the path linking the park’s front entrance to the new pavilion and playground,” Cr Conroy said.
During the same period, more than 230 native trees and shrubs will be planted around the carpark as part of the $340,000 project.
“Parks, gardens and reserves are incredibly important to our community and this is just one of many investments we’re making, all over the City, to improve them.
“As part of our recent Play Strategy consultation, we heard from locals in my ward, that park improvements are needed in Carrum Downs and Langwarrin,” the Deputy Mayor added.
“We’re working on a Local Park Action Plan that will set out priorities for park improvements in these neighbours and Frankston North, over the coming decade, based on community feedback.”
Council’s Draft Play Strategy is being finalised for public exhibition in May 2021.
Bohorama is open 6am-1pm weekdays on the Cranbourne Road slip lane carpark, out the front of Ballam Park and weekends between 9am-3pm in the carpark next to (left of) the main playground.
