Council committed to protecting our precious heritage

Frankston City Council is dedicated to working with residents to preserve and protect our much loved heritage.

South Ward Cr Brad Hill said a heritage place can include a specific site or building, as well as a region or landscape.

“Heritage places can provide essential links with the past and help us to define our shared community history. Frankston has a rich history. Research shows that communities value and have a strong connection to the past and protection of heritage places is an important step in maintaining the link.

“We’re keen to get input from residents and receive feedback regarding views on heritage. The Frankston Heritage Survey will help us gain insights into community values and understanding of heritage both indigenous and European. Our survey takes about five minutes and closes on 20 April,” Cr Hill said.

Cr Hill added that the Frankston Heritage Survey is part of a consultation plan prepared for the Frankston City Heritage Gap Review 2020 project.

The draft final Frankston City Heritage Gap Review 2020 identifies 23 places of local heritage significance that warrant further consideration for heritage overlay protection in the Frankston Planning Scheme.

Cr Hill said: “Residents have told us that they value the positive contribution heritage places make to the historical context and identity of Frankston and its suburbs; and the role that heritage makes in contributing to the importance of place and cultural connectedness.” 

Residents can have input on the draft final Review and make submissions. All submissions received by 20 April will be considered and included as part of a report presented to Council.
