Council grant hits the right note for Frankston Music Community

Frankston City Council has hit the right note with a $28,000 grant to the new Frankston Music Community Network.
Councillors voted to support the grant as part of the 2021-22 Budget. Council separately in the Budget reaffirmed and underscored its support to COVID-19 recovery initiatives with a $3.86 million investment to help our community to recover from COVID-19 – taking Council’s total support in the Relief and Recovery Package to $9.128 million.
South Ward Cr Liam Hughes said music is an integral part of Frankston City, adding: “We’re aware that our arts and culture community have particularly done it hard due to the lockdowns and restrictions.
“We’re proud to support our talented musicians with this grant to help establish the new Frankston Music Community Network, which will develop local talent and performance opportunities.
“I look forward to seeing what our music creatives produce as they share their storytelling and live music talents at venues across Frankston City,” Cr Hughes said.
Cr Hughes said: “Live music enhances our lifestyle and brings joy, connection and community for residents and visitors in Frankston City.”
Frankston Music Festival past director Robert Thurley said the network will become an active member of Music Victoria.
Mr Thurley said: “The lockdowns have hit our previously vibrant music community hard and this grant from Frankston City Council will provide a huge boost at a time it’s needed the most.”
Mr Thurley added that the grant will be partly used to maintain the new Frankston Music Community Network website, adding: “Maintaining an online register of venues and performers is valuable to venues and musicians alike and when anyone is looking for a suitable performer there is much better transparency and a much wider range available depending on price and genre sought. The music market is much better served.
“The COVID 19 pandemic has wrought a terrible impact on our beloved live music scene – Council’s grant to the Frankston Music Community Network is a huge assistance going forward,” Mr Thurley said.
