Frankston City Council is dedicated to ensuring our City and suburbs are safe and welcoming places to live, work, play and visit.
Mayor Kris Bolam said Council has invested in CCTV cameras with more than 200 cameras strategically situated across the Frankston municipality with the vast majority providing a live feed to Frankston Police Station.
Mayor Bolam said: “There has been a significant increase in CCTV over the last two years with an estimated overall 20 per cent increase in cameras across Frankston City.
“Council’s Community Safety Team works closely with local Police to identify sites for the new cameras, based on the location of incidents the police have had to attend.
“The CCTV program has assisted Victoria Police in responding to crime and improved safety and security,” Mayor Bolam said.
CCTV coverage includes Nepean Highway, Frankston, from Davey Street to Fletcher Road and the Seaford waterfront area.
Mayor Bolam added that the Frankston City Council CCTV program has been supported by State and Federal Government via grant programs.
“Frankston City’s award winning beaches and burgeoning arts scene, including public art installations, are major attractions – not to mention our great shopping precincts. We know when COVID-19 restrictions ease, residents and visitors will be keen to get out and about to support our hardworking traders, grab a bargain or two and explore everything our municipality offers.
“That’s why we’re committed to ensuring our City and suburbs are safe and welcoming places for all and have undertaken a range of initiatives to strengthen public safety and deter anti-social behaviour,” the Mayor said.
Mayor Bolam said these initiatives include changes to the Community Local Law to ensure it is more community focused and increasing patrols by Community Safety officers on the City’s beaches over summer.
The Mayor said this is complemented by Council and Police working together to tackle hoon activity in Frankston City, adding the Community Local Law 2020 includes clauses specifically defining hoon activity and making it illegal, while also prohibiting people from attending or encouraging hoon events.
