Frankston City sporting clubs continue to receive a helping hand from Council as part of its $9 million Relief and Recovery Package.

Councillors voted unanimously at a recent Council Meeting to approve the waiving of winter seasonal sports club tenancy and ground allocation fees ($149,337) for 33 sports clubs for the period 1 July 2021 – 30 September 2021.

Council also waived school and personal trainer ground hire fees ($9,500) and licence fees and charges for licenced occupiers in Council-run community centres ($26,100) for the same period.

Deputy Mayor Nathan Conroy said the waivers provided a significant support for our community following an incredibly difficult period due to the lockdowns as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cr Conroy said: “Sporting clubs are a vital part of our community and play an integral role keeping residents healthy and connected.

“Many sporting clubs and organisations closed temporarily or were impacted and Council is providing assistance to continue our tradition of community support,” Cr Conroy said.

Cr Conroy added: “Council is mindful of the hardship that these groups are facing in these challenging times. Sporting Clubs are experiencing very difficult times with unprecedented impacts on clubs financially, in membership and also with volunteers.”

Peninsula Strikers Junior Football Club President Rob Harrington said the waiver had provided a huge boost for the club, particularly during such a challenging period.

As part of the $9 million Relief and Recovery Package, Council also provided $134,000 in   waivers for 29 sports clubs for summer 2020–2021 and $150,000 in waivers for 33 clubs for winter 2020.

Council is also directly supporting many local charities and not-for-profits with additional funding, to help them continue providing vital assistance during the pandemic.

Funding from the Relief and Recovery Package has also been allocated for ongoing resourcing and supports to help people experiencing family violence in the area.
