Council’s ‘Do It Outdoors’ campaign hits the right note

Frankston City Council and the Committee for Greater Frankston have joined forces to provide funding for musicians and performers to support outdoor dining venues post lockdown.

Council ($40,000) and the Committee for Greater Frankston ($20,000) have provided the funding to support the hospitality sector, attract people back to the city centre and buy local, as well as enhance the outdoor dining experience for locals and visitors.

North-East Ward Cr David Asker said it was wonderful to see so many people frequenting hospitality venues and enjoying the numerous tasty temptations on offer across Frankston City.

“Hospitality is vital to the Frankston City economy with 655 businesses employing about 2862 people contributing an annual turnover of more than $345 million.

“We’ve provided the funding as part of Frankston City’s Place Activation Program to support our ‘Do It Outdoors’ campaign. The funds will go towards providing performers and entertainers at venues.

“From Frankston South to the CBD, to Seaford and beyond, dining is alive and buzzing across Frankston City with unique outdoor experiences catering for everyone,” Cr Asker said.

Council officers have collaborated with hospitality businesses across the municipality to implement parklets and expanded outdoor dining spaces, which will be in place until June 2021.

Committee for Greater Frankston Chief Executive Officer, Ginevra Hosking, said her organisation had successfully applied via the State Government for a $20,000 Victorian Business Chambers and Trader Organisation Grant, which it is proudly contributing to bringing locals to our streets and diverse outdoor dining activations, as well as encouraging people to buy local.

“Outdoor dining is a great way to reconnect with friends and dine alfresco-style among new and innovative dining installations. We encourage our community to get behind Frankston’s cafes, bars, restaurants and traders – 2020 was tough for all and this summer let’s all ‘Do It Outdoors’.

“There’s no shortage of gastronomic delights and vibrant outdoor dining options in streets, laneways, footpaths, open spaces and car parks across Frankston City,” Ms Hosking said.

Frankston musician Simon Levick said he had enjoyed performing at hospitality venues as part of Council’s ‘Do It Outdoors’ campaign.

“It’s been fantastic. The new outdoor dining areas look awesome and have injected a sense of community into these spaces. I’ve also been able to involve my music students, which has been a huge opportunity for them,” Mr Levick said.
