Footballers to get a kick out of new McClelland Soccer Pitch

Peninsula Strikers Football Club Seniors are set for a massive 2022 with works now underway on a new McClelland Soccer Pitch.
Frankston City Council Mayor Kris Bolam said the $1.3 million project includes a new automatic irrigation system, installation of lay flat sub surface drainage, perimeter pitch and ball stop fencing, soccer goals, coaching boxes and turf.
Mayor Bolam, Deputy Mayor Nathan Conroy and Council CEO Phil Cantillon met recently with Club officials to discuss the project.
Mayor Bolam said: “Staying fit, healthy and active has a fantastic effect on our sense of physical and mental wellbeing. Frankston City boasts a vast range of sporting clubs and opportunities for recreation and we’re proud to support the new McClelland Soccer Pitch and associated works.”
The Mayor said that work on the project started in August and is scheduled to be completed by January 31, 2022 – in time for the start next year’s soccer season.
Deputy Mayor Nathan Conroy added: “After an extremely tough two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I look forward to seeing the Peninsula Strikers Football Club Seniors teams take to the field and achieve fantastic results on their new pitch.”
Peninsula Strikers Football Club Seniors President Adrian Scialpi said the club, which has approximately 60 members, was excitedly looking forward to the 2022 season.
Mr Scialpi said: “For the club, this is massive. This improves the playability and means we can use it 12 months of the year. It’s a massive boost for the club.”
Cr Conroy said: “After reconstruction works at the ground in 1993 to repair the uneven surface, undulations started to reappear five years ago – hence the plan to reconstruct using new technology.”
Plans for associated works to install new sports lighting at the McClelland Soccer Pitch are underway with design work to be undertaken this year.
The McClelland Soccer Pitch is the home of the Peninsula Strikers Football Club Seniors. For more details about the club, please visit the Peninsula Strikers Football Club website.
The Strikers are going from strength to strength thanks to support from Council. Earlier this year, the new $4.63 million Ballam Park South Pavilion, which is home to the Peninsula Strikers Junior Football Club, was opened.
It includes a new kitchen and kiosk, eight female-friendly change rooms, suitable spaces for umpires, a large social space and new public toilets for park users.
The pavilion and new sports lighting gives the Peninsula Strikers Junior Football Club state-of-the-art facilities that better serve its growing ranks, particularly female players.
