Frankston Arts Centre back in business following ‘showstopper’

2020 has certainly been a ‘showstopper’ and now Frankston Arts Centre is excited to welcome back patrons in line with COVID-safe practices.

Frankston City Council Manager Arts and Culture, Andrew Moon, said changes had been made to keep audiences, performers, crew and staff safe and healthy so all can enjoy the arts, entertainment and events together.

“Our team has been working tirelessly to bring you an incredible line up of quality entertainment including accomplished comedian Akmal, Cadd and Morris, The Traveling Wilburys Sessions and plenty more. We’re also incredibly excited to be offering opportunities for artists and extraordinary experiences for audiences in real life.

“We are excited to be welcoming audiences back to the cultural heart of Frankston in 2021. The positive feedback at our invitation only show in November and first ticketed show, a Christmas Variety Special, post lockdown in December was amazing – people love the arts and we love bringing the arts to them.

“Our patrons are saying they can’t wait to attend more shows this year and experience all that Frankston Arts Centre offers – from stimulating exhibitions to arts programs for children, as well as the best theatrical shows and performances, not to mention lesser known and up and coming acts,” Mr Moon said.

North-East Ward Cr Suzette Tayler said: “There’s something for everyone at the FAC and its wonderful more shows are being booked for our arts loving community and those from outside Frankston City who love the shows we offer.”

Cr Tayler added: “Let’s enjoy arts, entertainment and events together and be COVID-safe. Patrons must wear a face mask inside Frankston Arts Centre, unless they have a lawful reason not to, and abide by any COVID safe guidelines as instructed by theatre staff. The centre’s COVID-safe practices have been tested and refined with friendly staff on hand if patrons need any assistance.

“Thanks to all for their continued support of Frankston Arts Centre – I’m looking forward to seeing you there,” Cr Tayler said.

There are many shows scheduled for 2021, however, most will not open for ticket sales until six weeks prior to ensure that the venue complies with the latest capacity restrictions.

Patrons are encouraged to join a waiting list for particular events on the FAC website to be the first to know about ticket sales.

The first Daytime Music + Theatre performance in 2021 features two of Australia’s favourite leading ladies - Rhonda Burchmore and Rachael Beck - to the FAC stage for Gorgeous Valentines on Friday 12 February, with shows at 10.30am and 1.30pm. Rhonda and Rachael will perform a delightful, humorous concert of first class entertainment and glamour featuring sparkling renditions of their favourite songs. Tickets $19 - $21.

Originally handpicked to be in the 2020 Theatre Season, multiple Green Room award-winning cabaret artist Jude Perl will perform I Have A Face on Saturday 20 February, 6.30pm. Jude Perl’s comedic insight into her personal and relatable mental health struggles of being an adult will make you want to sing along, cry and laugh all at once. She’ll talk about some tough stuff, make you laugh and feel truly human. Tickets $30 - $40.

Lamb is a new Australian play full of lyrical longing and humour presented by Red Stitch. It is a story of the land and of lies told and secrets kept to protect those we love and to stop them from leaving us. Written by multi-award-winning playwright Jane Bodie and featuring original songs by Mark Seymour (Hunters and Collectors). Originally handpicked for the 2020 theatre season, the FAC is excited to finally bring this poignant production to Frankston on Thursday 25 February, 7.30pm. Tickets $27 - $60.

Andy and Terry’s Treehouse has reached an amazing 91 Storeys. It’s now more fantastically dangerous than ever with a deserted desert island, a whirlpool and a giant spider. Just beware of the fortune teller! Primary schoolers and their adults will love The 91-Storey Treehouse on Sunday 28 February, 10am and 12pm. Tickets $28 - $30.
