Frankston City locals – have a say on HOW you can have a say
Published on 07 May 2021
Frankston City Council is currently consulting the community on the Community Engagement Framework aimed at finding out how the community wants to be part of the decision making process.
Defined as ‘involving the community in decisions that impact and interest them’, Community Engagement can take many forms, from information sharing to direct community involvement in decision making.
Frankston City Council’s Facebook Page highlights the numerous projects and initiatives happening around Frankston. Many of those are followed up with surveys, community panels and information sessions. Council is now asking residents ‘How do you want to have your say?’
With a series of pop up stalls around the City and suburbs, residents have the opportunity to stop by and let Council know what they think. A Pop up has been held at Wells St in central Frankston with more scheduled – the aim is to hear from as many people as possible.
Mayor Kris Bolam said Council is looking forward to hearing the community’s views and making those views part of the decision-making process.
“We often hear community pride is important in Frankston. And also that our residents have a view about what they want for the City – this Community Engagement Framework is about helping that happen.
“When the community are included in, and influence, decisions that affect them, Council’s decisions can be better understood, mutually beneficial, more innovative, more sustainable and representative of the interests of the broader community,” Mayor Bolam said.
Council Director Business Innovation and Culture, Shweta Babbar, added: “It is so important to get community input on our new Community Engagement Framework.
“The Framework demonstrates our commitment to embedding our engagement principles into what Council delivers, including reporting back and letting the whole community know what the views were and how Council responded,” Ms Babbar said.
The pop up stands also include information on two of the major initiatives Council is currently working on – the Annual Budget and a review of Frankston City’s current orders around dogs off lead on beaches, dogs on lead in the City centre and a cat curfew.
