Frankston abuzz with developers and home buyers

Frankston City Council’s decision to approve a significant planning application has resulted in a great outcome for the community with Urban DC Developer Danny Ciarma recently breaking ground on Horizon – a nine storey architecturally designed apartment complex set to further enhance the city’s rapidly growing profile.

Frankston City Mayor, Kris Bolam, Deputy Mayor, Nathan Conroy and Councillors Brad Hill and Sue Baker joined Mr Ciarma and his team at 1-2 Plowman Place on Wednesday (14 July), to celebrate the future commencement of construction.

The $82 million development is expected to be completed in mid-2023, and Mr Ciarma said the “quality project will prove a catalyst,” by generating developer interest in similar projects.

Mr Ciarma said: “I definitely have seen a change in Frankston over the last few years. There has been a groundswell of desire of business people wanting to do more.

“I think Horizon is one of those projects which will definitely kick start this movement and demonstrate to the business community that you can do wonderful things in Frankston and the Council is behind you to support you.

“There is a market there. For any business venture, there is a population craving greatness in Frankston,” Mr Ciarma said.

Mayor Bolam congratulated Mr Ciarma, thanked him for his confidence in Frankston and commended his passion and creativity.

“Today’s milestone means we are one step closer to seeing this exciting development to fruition and reaffirms that private investors are catching on to our City’s endless potential.

“A growing number of people want to live and invest locally, with recent realestate.com.au data ranking Frankston the third most in demand Victorian suburb for people looking to purchase homes,” Mayor Bolam said.

The Mayor added that Frankston City is open for appropriate development which will encourage more people to live, work, shop and play locally.

“We are poised to build Frankston’s future through advancing impressive, City shaping projects like these ones, which will boost our economy by creating jobs, housing, workplaces and infrastructure for the community,” Mayor Bolam said.

On top of the private investments, Council’s 2021-22 Budget includes a $64.89 million infrastructure spend.

Mayor Bolam said: “Frankston is one of only nine Metropolitan Activity Centres in Melbourne and has a significant role to play in supporting jobs, housing, retail and commercial opportunities in the South East region.”

To support development opportunities and a vibrant City Centre, Council is leading strategic planning work on the development of a new Structure Plan and Revitalisation Plan for the City Centre.

“This work will provide greater certainty to developers, the community and landowners on the future planning for the city centre,” the Mayor said.

Mr Ciarma is presenting at the South East B.I.G Build Expo on August 11 and 12. Major regional, upcoming construction projects with a total value of more than $1 billion, will be showcased at the event, to be held at Frankston Arts Centre.
