Frankston City’s 2021 Hard Waste Collection Service is complete and Council thanks residents for their efforts in putting acceptable items and amounts out on time.

The collection started on 19 April and concluded on 28 May.

Council’s hard waste contractor visited 58,941 homes across the City and collected 4624 tonnes of scrap steel, garden waste, e-waste, fridges, mattresses and hard waste during the six week period.

Overall, the amount collected remained similar to last year, however contractors recorded a 30 per cent decrease in green waste and 7 per cent decrease in hard waste.

This year’s collection also included 200 fridges, 8617 mattresses and 751 tonnes of scrap metal, which was distributed to local and nearby recycling facilities. In addition, 117 tonnes of garden waste was processed into compost for local farmers.

Frankston City Deputy Mayor Nathan Conroy said Council applauds the efforts of residents for following the criteria.

“It was pleasing to see how well residents presented their items for collection at the right time and in the right quantities. This helped us achieve our goal of diverting recoverable waste streams from landfill,” Cr Conroy said.

Cr Conroy praised Council’s teams for their hard work in ensuring the collection was conducted safely, successfully and on time.

“Feedback from residents has been overwhelmingly positive. One phoned to congratulate the Hard Waste collection team on doing a wonderful job and was very impressed with the way the collection was carried out,” Cr Conroy added.

Another resident said: “I personally would like to give some feedback about this year’s hard waste collection. I live in Langwarrin and noticed this year how professionally it was done and how quick the hard waste was collected. Well done to the contractors and staff who organised this year’s collections.”
