Get your skates on for Langwarrin Skate Park upgrade

Frankston City Deputy Mayor Nathan Conroy met recently with local rider and skater, Caiden, at Langwarrin Skate Park.
The pair discussed the great news that Council will contribute $40,000 for design and community consultation works to upgrade the park.
Following positive discussions with Federal Member for Dunkley, Peta Murphy, Council applied for a $20,000 Federal Government grant to progress the project.
At its February meeting, Council resolved to match this funding if its grant bid is successful.
The push for improvements was driven by 13-year-old Caiden, who visits the park with his brothers and recently gathered 355 signatures on an online petition to upgrade the facility.
“The ramps don’t really cater for younger kids and all the different skill levels. I think if there’s more kids, there will be more parents so it will be a safer experience to come here,” Caiden said.
“I think (a better facility) will also bring the community together more and more kids will be able to meet up,” he added.
Cr Conroy said consultation process would involve speaking directly with skaters like Caiden, who use the park.
“We’re delighted to commit this funding for the creation of designs to improve the skate park, with the view of commencing works from 2022.
“We will also be speaking directly with the kids who use the park and the wider community, to ensure we’re delivering a space they can enjoy, that meets their needs.
“It’s important that we provide an environment where young people feel safe participating and being actively involved in their community,” Cr Conroy said.
Council anticipates to receive a response regarding the outcome of the Federal Government grant application mid this year and will inform the community.
