Frankston City Mayor, Kris Bolam has urged eligible members of the community to book appointments for their free, safe and voluntary COVID-19 vaccinations.

“This outbreak is proof we are not out of the woods yet so be sure to get your vaccine like 1.98 billion others around the world,” the Mayor said.

“Getting vaccinated is one of the five reasons to leave your home during this circuit-breaker lockdown.

“Doing so is also the best way to protect yourself, your family and your community from COVID-19 and for all of us to return to the life we know and love,” Cr Bolam added.

Council Director Communities, Dr Gillian Kay, said as well as boosting your immune system to fight COVID-19 and preventing serious illness due to the virus, being vaccinated had social and economic benefits.

“The greater the number of people vaccinated, the better protected our community will be from outbreaks and virus mutations.

“This means we can continue to recover with less likelihood of lockdowns and the attending financial, social and mental health burdens experienced by many in our community,” Dr Kay said.

In addition to those eligible for the vaccine in phases 1a, 1b and 2a, Victorians aged 40 and over are now also eligible.

Peninsula Health Chief Medical Officer, Dr Shyaman Menon, said Peninsula Health is providing vaccinations to people who meet the eligibility criteria, as part of the Federal Government’s COVID-19 vaccination program, at Frankston and Rosebud Hospitals.

“A further location in Frankston is also set to open soon. The details and locations of the clinics and how to book in is available on Peninsula Health’s website.” Dr Menon said.

On Tuesday (1 June 2021), the Victorian Government announced that those who live and work in aged care facilities and the residential disability sector would be prioritised at selected walk-in vaccination hubs around Victoria.

Additionally, these staff and residents will no longer need to wait two weeks between receiving their influenza vaccination and COVID-19 vaccination (although they can’t be completed on the same day). Vaccination is a safe and effective way for all Victorians to protect themselves and their communities from serious disease caused by influenza. Those who are eligible can get the influenza vaccine for free under the National Immunisation Program.
