Frankston City Council and Frankston Life Community are encouraging residents to support their community and donate non-perishable tasty Christmas treats to the Christmas Giving Tree at Frankston Library.

The treats including mince pies and puddings, as well as quality non-perishable pantry staples and decorations such as bonbons, can be donated and placed under the Christmas Giving Tree at Frankston Library until Wednesday, 22 December.

The donations will be included in hampers and then be distributed at the Frankston Life Community Christmas lunch for disadvantaged families and individuals in our community.

Frankston City Mayor Nathan Conroy said the initiative will hopefully bring some cheer and ease the burden to those in our community who may struggle at this time of year.

Mayor Conroy said: “Christmas can be a hard time for those who are doing it tough or who spend Christmas day on their own.

“Extending your celebrations to those less fortunate is a great feeling and in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, more people than ever need our support.

“Just by placing an non-perishable tasty treats under the tree at Frankston Library you could transform a Christmas experience into a memorable moment for someone at the

Frankston Life Community Christmas Lunch.

“I encourage everyone to consider adding a little something extra to your shopping list so that your generous contribution can go straight to supporting our local community,” the Mayor said.

A large crowd is expected to come together for the Frankston Life Community Christmas Lunch. More than 150 volunteers will roll up their sleeves to help out on the day.

Frankston Life Community Christmas lunch coordinator Ron Crosling said Christmas is an important time of the year to think about those who are lonely and the less fortunate in our community.

“For many in our community Christmas is a difficult time,” Mr Crosling said.

“The joy of giving, the joy of receiving and especially the joy of sharing is what being part of a community is all about.

“The Frankston Life Community Christmas lunches are meaningful to the many volunteers who give their time on the day. It is an opportunity to serve members of our community who are often overlooked by the general population,” Mr Crosling said.

The Christmas Giving Tree is located at the Frankston Library, 60 Playne St, Frankston, until

Wednesday, 22 December.
