Jobs Victoria Advocates to help job seekers in Frankston

Published on 19 April 2021

Frankston City job seekers will receive vital support thanks to a partnership between Council, the Victorian Government and key organisations.

Three new Jobs Victoria Advocates funded by the Victorian Government will soon be working in community spaces in Frankston where they will offer face-to-face support to job seekers.

The Jobs Victoria Advocates will help connect people with local employment opportunities and services such as training, counselling or mentoring support to help them get back to work.

Working from locations including Frankston Library and local community centres, the Jobs Advocates will provide personalised support to ensure nobody is left behind in the recovery from COVID-19 and the economic downturn.

Mayor Kris Bolam said the Victorian Government funding was supported through the work of the newly-formed Frankston City Job Seeker Alliance and employment support program.

Mayor Bolam said: “The Alliance includes a diverse range of key organisations dedicated to achieving the best outcomes for job seekers.

“Council is dedicated to providing support to those in need and as part of our $7.038 million Relief and Recovery Package, $110,000 was set aside to establish the Frankston City Job Seeker Alliance.

“We have a proud history of being there for those in need and this is another example of our commitment to helping the community recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic,” the Mayor said.

The Jobs Victoria Advocates initiative is helping people looking for work to access the information, advice and support they need to find the right job for them.

The State Member for Frankston, Paul Edbrooke MP, said: “We’re making sure that no one is left behind and I’m proud of the work we’re doing to provide job seekers with the information, advice and support they need to get back to work here in Frankston.”

Council’s Director of Communities, Dr Gillian Kay, said Alliance members are working to identify gaps in the system which prevent job seekers achieving successful outcomes.

Dr Kay added: “The Jobs Victoria Advocates will provide tailored solutions – based on the individual needs of job seekers – with support from Alliance member organisations.

“We share a passion for the community and helping people back into meaningful employment. The Alliance is committed to supporting the development of initiatives to ensure better job outcomes,” Dr Kay said.

The Frankston City Job Seeker Alliance is seeking an Honorary Chairperson for the next two years. To express interest in the position, please email business@frankston.vic.gov.au

It is anticipated that the Jobs Victoria Advocates will be in their roles – based at local libraries and community centres – in May.
