Major boost to traffic safety at busy Langwarrin intersection
Published on 02 July 2021
Traffic safety and pavement conditions have been improved at the busy Langwarrin intersection of Skye Road and McClelland Drive thanks to $520,180 works funded by Frankston City Council and the Federal Government.
North West Ward Cr Steven Hughes said the improved roundabout at the intersection – funded by the Federal Government via the Blackspot Safety Improvement Program – is a huge win for locals.
“The main objective for the project was funded through the Blackspot Safety Improvement Program to address road safety issues following a number of accidents.
“Council made submissions and received $180,180 under the Blackspot Program to fund the roundabout upgrade. These works include the realignment of the kerb and channel including modification of splitter islands and central roundabout,” Cr Hughes said.
Cr Hughes added: “The pavement at the roundabout and sections further along Skye Road were previously identified as needing maintenance under Council’s road renewal program – so Council took the opportunity to combine the two components under one project, both renewing the road and improving safety at this busy intersection.
“These $340,000 works funded by Council include renewal of the road pavement and asphalt surfacing as part of road safety improvements at the intersection,” Cr Hughes said.
Senator for Victoria David Van said: “I commend Frankston City Council for their diligence in creating safer roads for the Frankston community – $180,000 from the Morrison Government's Blackspot Safety Improvement Program went towards fixing the notorious intersection at Skye Road and McClelland Drive.”
Cr Hughes thanked residents for their patience and cooperation during the works, which were completed in early July 2021.
