Mayor Kris Bolam’s statement: Circuit breaker lockdown

Due to the spread of the fast moving Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus, Victoria has gone into another circuit-breaker lockdown.

It is anticipated the lockdown will run for five days until 11.59pm Tuesday night.

I’m acutely aware this is the last thing any of us wanted – but by sticking to the rules and putting public health first, we can get on top of this. We’ve been there before and we can do this again. The resolve of Frankston City residents is strong and together we will beat the Coronavirus and return to a semblance of a normal life.

This outbreak feels particularly close to home. The State Government has released updated exposure sites including areas in Karingal, Hastings and Cheltenham. I urge residents to familiarise themselves with the sites here: https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/exposure-sites

Under the current lockdown restrictions, there are five reasons to leave home:

  • Food and essential supplies.
  • Authorised work.
  • Care and caregiving.
  • Exercise, for up to two hours and with one other person.
  • To get vaccinated.

Exercise and shopping is limited to five kilometres from home. Single person bubbles and intimate partner visits will be permitted.

It’s important to note that some Council services have been altered and others have paused. For example, physical library branches will be closed, however they continue with only a click and collect service, and Frankston Regional Recycling and Recovery Centre will only accept permitted commercial drop offs. Lockdowns are incredibly challenging, however be assured that Council is here for our residents. We have a proud history of walking side by side with our community during difficult times and now is no different. Late last month, Council reaffirmed and underscored its support to COVID-19 recovery initiatives with a $3.86 million investment to help our community to recover from COVID-19 – taking Council’s total support in the Relief and Recovery Package to $9.128 million.

The Coronavirus pandemic has created significant difficulties for residents, businesses, sporting and community groups and Council is united in its determination to support the community as it recovers from the challenges of COVID-19.
