Mayor Kris Bolam’s statement: Easing of lockdown restrictions
Published on 22 October 2021
The announcement by the State Government that the lockdown restrictions introduced due to the COVID-19 pandemic will ease significantly today (22 October) comes as an enormous relief to all in Frankston City.
I’ve been incredibly heartened by the resilience, patience and unity of Frankston City residents over these incredibly challenging past months.
To our frontline workers and selfless COVID Heroes, I acknowledge and applaud your remarkable dedication and efforts to keep us and safe and serve the community.
Both the Federal Government and State Government also deserve recognition for the vaccine rollout and keeping Victorians safe respectively. The critical role of our Peninsula Health workers both in COVID testing and the vaccine rollout cannot be overstated. Their dedication to public health in the most difficult of circumstances has provided a fantastic example of the true meaning of community spirit.
In the meantime, I encourage those in Frankston City who haven’t already to roll up their sleeves and get vaccinated. The vaccination rate in some parts of Frankston City still needs to increase and this is ultimately the only way out of this situation that we all face. However, it’s important to acknowledge that in order to avoid future restrictions and potential lockdowns that we all do the right thing and follow current mask and social distancing regulations.
During the lockdowns, Frankston City’s small businesses worked tirelessly to refresh and reinvigorate. Now, your support for our traders means everything to local business owners and their workers. Our local businesses have all missed you and are super keen to see your smiling faces as you return to provide support.
Council has also worked tirelessly over the past months to offer an extensive range of initiatives and supports to support business including $200,000 to establish a new Frankston Business and Industry Chamber, $120,000 for the Invest Frankston After Dark Activation Grants to boost the Frankston City night economy and activation grants.
